The more I work with the sci-fi pieces (got a couple in progress) the more I'm thinkin about mabye give digital art a go again, then on a serious level in the matte painting area. Then I'd be working with Photography/Matte painting alot, which can be a quite fun and interesting combination.
Oh god I wish I had time to Sci-fi Illustrace Design Concept design Photography Matte paintings

Wow, the colors are so nicely done! The blue is just so easy to get lost into. Lost in space! Everything is just glowing so much, it's awesome. The streaks of white hidden make it look like everything shooting down whilst remaining half-static. The white-clue melting into dark flipping over to green is eye-catching- especially how it looks like the green is attempting to claw and lash out slowly into the dark blue. Like an orb. The shadowing on the planets is very nice and mysterious, and the rings seem like something out of a 3-D movie.
Now that I think about it, the way the colors are laid out make it look like clear walls jutting out to shield things, so maybe not necessarily an orb- a pyramid or something with orb-like features. The distant, implied galaxies are overwhelming and the different colored glows of the stars make me want to pack up, move to the location of your picture, and find out why. It's mysteriously awesome, like you've drawn eternity.
The most geeziest bullshit i've every heard, i mean i myself can easily tell the difference and this is NOT one of you're bes tbut rather bla bla bla.. There are a bit of arees you've couldve work better on, but since i don't really give a rats ass, i'll jut say "nice work" yada yada lol.. -.-
Sorry... I'm serious though. I like it, and I'm entitled to my own opinion. I really can't understand you very well. I'm also not a digital artist, so I can't much tell what you did wrong- besides, in Sci-Fi it makes it harder, as things of Sci-Fi normally look odd.
I have one that's been layin aroung for a while and it's a starfield tutorial. It's needed some fresh material in that department here on DA, to show my twist on how I make 'em. I think alot of people would benifit from it .

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
